Before heading into any retreat, we spend time packing, organizing schedules and setting up logistics. But what if we prepared spiritually with the same intensity? Too often, we focus on the physical details while missing the deeper spiritual preparation that allows us to see God move in powerful ways.
The Call to Prepare
In Joshua 3:1-5, the Israelites were about to witness a miracle, but first they had to prepare their hearts. The Ark of the Covenant ā a symbol of God’s presence, power and holiness ā led the way. Yet before stepping into the unknown, the people were commanded: āConsecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among youā (v. 5, NIV).
Spiritual preparation is intentional ā it doesnāt happen by accident. As you get ready for your retreat, take time to confess sin, pray, worship and set your heart apart for what God wants to do. Encourage your students to do the same. A retreat isnāt just an event ā itās a divine appointment.
The Call to Follow in Obedience
In Joshua 3:6-9, the people could follow in obedience because they had prepared. God instructed Joshua and the priests to step into the river before it stopped flowing ā faith was required before the miracle happened.
The same is true for us. If we want to experience Godās power, we must be willing to follow Him in obedience. Ask yourself: Are you truly listening to the Lordās leading? Are you slowing down to hear His voice? Encourage your students to step out in faith, knowing that God honors those who trust Him.
The Call to Faith
In Joshua 3:10-17, the waters stopped, not just for one person but for every person. The miracle was collective. This reminds us that faith isnāt just individual ā itās corporate. A retreat is not just about personal growth but about moving forward together as a group.
Ways to prepare to see God work:
- PrayāSeek Godās guidance before the retreat begins.
- ConfessāEncourage students to come with open, humble hearts.
- StudyāDive into Scripture, expecting God to speak.
- WorshipāFix your heart on God, not just the retreat experience.
- Be PresentāEngage fully, setting distractions aside.
When we prepare, follow in faith and step out in obedience, we position ourselves to experience Godās presence and power in ways we never imagined.
For your retreat, donāt just lead a retreatālead your students to prepare their hearts so they can truly encounter the Lord. Amazing things happen when we get ready for them.
